Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
GATE is an online national level examination conducted for Master of Engineering (ME), Masters in Technology (MTech) and direct PhD admissions. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level post-graduate entrance exam that is jointly conducted by the seven IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore for admission to M.Tech programmes offered by government as well as many private institutes.
Through GATE, candidates can seek admission or financial assistance (for admission) to the Master"s programs and doctoral programs in Engineering, Architecture and relevant branches of Science. Qualifying GATE is mandatory for admission to these courses offered at MHRD-supported institutes and other government agencies. These institutes include IITs, IISc, NITs, IIITs, Government-Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) and other universities in India. GATE scores are also used by Public Sector Units (PSUs) for job recruitments.
GATE Exam 2020
IIT Delhi has released GATE 2020 application form on August 31, 2019. The last date to fill the application form of GATE 2020 is September 24. The computer based test will be organized by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi on February 1, 2, 8 and 9. GATE 2020 official brochure has been released by IIT Delhi. This year, GATE 2020 will be conducted in 25 papers which includes a newly added subject - Biomedical Engineering. The entrance exam will be held in two sessions per day. Applicants can download their GATE 2020 admit card from January 3.
GATE result 2020 will be declared on March 16 where as the score card of GATE will be available for download from March 20. GATE scores will be valid for a period of three years from the date of the release of the result. Candidates can use their GATE 2020 scores for admission purposes in the IITs through the Common Online Admission Portal (COAP) for IITs and CCMT for NITs or even apply to leading PSUs which recruit on the basis of the same.
- The Application Fee for general category candidate is INR 1500.
- A new paper of Biomedical Engineering has been added in the list of 24 exams. From this year, GATE will be held for 25 subjects.
- Candidates must fulfill GATE Eligibility to appear in the exam. Final year students of graduate courses in STEM disciplines can also appear in GATE exam.
- The exam will be conducted for 25 branches of STEM. GATE Syllabus for each paper will be stipulated separately.
- GATE Cutoff is released soon after the release of the result. Candidates who qualify the cutoff scores are eligible for M.Tech admission in IITs, NITs, and other engineering institutes.
- GATE Result will be announced on March 16, 2020.
