There are about 76,928 MBBS seats which are available across more than 532 medical colleges in India. Besides this, AIIMS offers around 1205 seats in its 15 campuses including its main campus in the national capital, New Delhi. JIPMER also offers 200 MBBS seats through its own entrance test for the JIPMER Puducherry and Karaikal campuses. MBBS admission to all these seats will be filled on the basis of NEET scores.

MBBS Course Duration

The duration of MBBS course is 5 ½ years including a rotating internship of one year. The internship is mandatory, and one can complete the course only by completing an internship. The duration of MBBS academic course is 4 ½ years that comprises of nine semesters. MCI (Medical Council of India) is the only accreditation body in India for MBBS course. Medical Council of India is responsible for structuring/ revamping the MBBS course in India.

NOTENEET exam has been postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. In India, MBBS admission process is purely based on entrance tests, and direct admission to MBBS course is not possible without Neet entrance exam score. Therefore, MBBS aspirants must clear the MBBS entrance exam to secure admission.

Admission Procedure

The admissions in the medial colleges and universities of India are offered only through national level entrance exam Neet. Through Neet entrance exam, candidates can get admission in any state medical and dental college in medical courses.

Selection Procedure

The candidates will be selected for the seat allotment on the basis of rank. The seats will be allotted at the time of counselling. After declaration of the NEET result, the authority will release the merit list of the candidates as per their ranks.

Candidates have to appear in the online counselling where they have to fill the preferences of colleges. For participating in the counselling it is necessary to first register on the respective counselling website.

Candidates have to undergo documents verrification for the allotment of seats. Candidates can download the admission letter and report to the allotted colleges for final admission.
